Many families are struggling with today's uncertain and
challenging economic times. However, for the Barry Family, things are
unfortunately much worse. John Barry, age 44, a native of Taurin, County
Waterford, Ireland, was diagnosed with advanced stages of ALS, also known as Lou
Gehrig's disease, in June 2009. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease
that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Presently, there is
no cure for ALS. Due to the many complications from this illness, John Barry
passed away on June 23, 2009.
John left behind his loving wife Áine, a native of Cappoquin, County Waterford
and three beautiful, young children, Megan, 13 years old, Emma, 11 years old,
and Ian, 10 years old. John Barry was a proud member of International Union of
Operating Engineers Local 150. The Barry's are active parishioners of St.
Gerald Parish in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
A group of friends have formed a committee that will help provide Áine a
monetary means that will assist her in providing for and educating their
children - just as John unselfishly did before his untimely death.
